God Used the Communists

I had heard it before while on pilgrimage to Medjugorje, but it struck me this time in a new way, namely, that God used the Communists to make known the presence of Our Lady. The small Catholic town of Medjugorje was so politically insignificant that it was unknown even to fellow countrymen. But as the Communists tried to suppress talk about the alleged apparitions taking place there in 1981, word spread throughout the surrounding regions of what was happening.

What a wonderful sign of God’s dominion over every evil. The Communists were the ones who first, and most effectively, promoted the apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje. The more they forbade people from visiting, the more pilgrims began making their way to the town “between the mountains.”

Recalling this renews a sense of joy in my heart, and I hope it will in yours as well. There is much evil in the world, many things to lament. The devil is very active. But it’s because he knows his time is short, and, even now, he bites his own tail. He always has. Even his darkest ways are subject to the reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. +
