The Name: “Petersboat”

The Gospel being read at Mass today is Luke 5:1-11, the passage describing that occasion on which Jesus got into one of the boats, “the one belonging to Simon,” before pushing off from the shore to teach the people from the boat.

I was a priest only a few months when I had the idea to design a site called “Petersboat,” considering that a website itself is a thing somewhat “pushed off from the shores” of real life, but that nevertheless, since the crowds in the parish are often so great, might be for Our Lord a kind of digital vessel in order that He may teach the crowds with a word.

Preferring .net to .org seemed obvious, since my desire to help Our Lord is born of the vocation to be a “fisher of men” with Him, and to fish always with Simon Peter, using the nets of the Catholic Church, which is founded on the authority Our Lord bestowed upon him and his successors.
