“The Queen of Peace”
I mentioned to you yesterday that the Vatican Commission released a statement - a “Note” - “to conclude a long and complex history that has surrounded the spiritual phenomena of Medjugorje.” I encourage all of you to read the document yourselves. It’s not long.
The document makes distinctions between supernatural phenomena as such, and the fruits of devotion to Medjugorje as seen in the lives of the People of God. It also looks at specific messages of Our Lady, showing how their central aspects correspond to the Gospel message.
But - and this I did not expect - the Dicastery has also taken care to acknowledge some of the more ambiguous messages of Our Lady, saying, “Although messages of this type are infrequent in Medjugorje, we can find some of them that are explained solely from the personal desires of the alleged visionaries.” And the document gives examples.
In any case, I do hope you will take time to read it for yourselves. It serves the Church well, not only as a pronouncement on the good and trustworthy fruits of devotion to Our Lady, Queen of Peace, as she comes to us through the experience of Medjugorje, but also as a thorough introduction to the place and the messages.
The document answers so many questions - I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I hope you will be too. Now, what remains for us is that we live the messages - that we would listen to Our Lady’s cry for us to be converted through prayer. Only then will our families and our world know peace. +
